The Demo Version will give you total visibility of what Planets Explorer 2.0 is capable of. The demo version is fully functional: every tool, feature and navigation mode of The Planets Explorer is available in the demo version. The only limitation is that a message indicating that you are using a free demo version appears on the 3D rendering window, and that the application will automatically close after 10 minutes of operation. Additionnally, only low and medium quality textures are supplied, with the exception of Mars, for which the high quality one can be used.
To install the demo version just run the downloaded setup program. It will automatically install the application. In order to reduce the download file size, the Java and Java3D run times are not included in this setup program (the full commercial version will install every thing for you). Java and Java3D run times must be downloaded from Sun Microsystems site. This downloadable setup program includes everything you will need to run The Planets Explorer demo . It will automatically install the application and necessary files, including the Java and Java3D run times.
An internet demo of The Planets Explorer can be run from any Internet browser. You will just need to have the Java2 plug-in installed. If it is not already installed in your PC, it will be automatically downloaded from Sun´s java.sun.com site. You will also need to install the Java3D extension, that can also be obtained from the same site. Click on our help link for details on how to install Java2 and Java3D.
